Another wedding affected by Covid-19
Lizzie & Imogen were supposed to get married in May 2020 in Shaftesbury, in the stunning hills of North Dorset. But because of the pandemic, they had to move their wedding to May of 2021. Due to some tragic family news the wedding had to happen as soon as possible. Luckily I was available to photograph their wedding at very short notice in October 2020. Due to the circumstances, short notice and Covid rule of 15 people for weddings, the venue had been changed to the BCP Bournemouth Town Hall in the heart of the beautiful seaside town of Bournemouth.
Although it was not the Summer wedding in the Dorset countryside they had planned, the weather did not let us down! It was a beautiful autumn day, with warmth in the air. The trees were a spectrum of gorgeous colours in the Bournemouth Gardens.
Photographing the wedding ceremony in the Bournemouth Town Hall
The interior of the Town Hall was gorgeous, with the sun shining through the large windows to light up the ceremony nicely. The downside with photographing wedding ceremonies at the moment is that because of social distancing rules I am limited by the venue as to where I can stand to capture the ceremony. The registrar allowed me to stand on a raised platform at the very front of the room, this actually made a superb vantage point for capturing the main events. Because I couldn't move from the platform I used my Tamron 70-200mm zoom lense, this was the perfect choice as there was more than enough sunlight to keep my shutter speed high enough to freeze movement and it meant I could zoom in on the really important moments such as capturing emotional moments between the two brides, guest reactions and the first kiss from a distance without breaking any covid-secure rules.
Wedding Photo shoot in the beautiful Bournemouth Gardens
After the ceremony, the newly wed couple kept some wedding normality by keeping some traditions such as confetti and popping a bottle of champagne. We then took socially distanced group photos in Bournemouth gardens followed by a romantic photo shoot to end the day. The Bournemouth gardens looked truly amazing at this time of the year with all the autumnal colours.
This is my very first gay wedding which I have photographed, some of these photos will make a fine addition to my portfolio and I hope will attract other gay couples to book me as their Dorset wedding photographer! I would like to conclude this post that saying that I am open minded and completely welcoming of gay/same sex couples, and look forward to Photographing your big day!
